The Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital conducted a seminar on rehabilitation medicine in Bethlehem in which Donna Langenbahn and Leo Shea represented Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine. Also attending and presenting were Palestinian, Israeli, Swedish, Chinese and Norwegian delegations. Norway, with the encouragement of Queen Sonja, has been in the van championing the cause of the disabled. Thomas Stanghelle, son of Professor Johan Stanghelle of Sunnaas, has written an opera, "Some Sunny Day", telling the story of Ketil Moe and Mark Wang, both handicapped marathoners. The group from China, part of the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe, brought with them several visually impaired singers who, along with Mr. Stanghelle, rendered excerpts from his work. Sunnaas hosted tours of Bethlehem and Jerusalem and dinners at the Grotto in Bethlehem and the restaurant at The American Colony Hotel in Jerusalem where we stayed for one night. |
